Rebecca's fact file
Born: 17 February 1989 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.
Stroke: Freestyle
Achievements:It has often been said that Rebecca Adlington single-handedly revitalised British swimming in the Beijing Olympics. Having never made the finals of a World Long Course Championships or previous Olympic Games, she won gold in both the 400m and 800m freestyle. Her time in the 800m broke the 19-year-old world record - the longest standing of all swimming world records.
Rebecca became the first British swimmer for 100 years to win two Olympic golds and only the second woman to win two gold medals at the same Games. All at the tender age of 19.
