Health and fitness

Even if you're trying to increase your speed, always use the best possible technique during your swimming workout. That way, you'll make bigger improvements.
Make sure you do some specific work on your technique at some point during every swim to reinforce good swimming skills.
You may not need to do more than one or two hard swimming workouts a week, so long as you supplement them with a couple of easier ones.
Whether you're doing a start, a push-off or a turn, you should always do a streamline first, then go into the transition between the streamline and swimming.
Always push off the wall as if you're coming out of a turn even if you are just starting a set. The extra practice will help.

There's no need to invest in the latest high-tech body suit - just don't wear baggy beach shorts if you're trying to improve your technique or speed.

Better still, ask them to video you. Watching yourself or getting feedback from others can really help your technique.

Flippers can help you achieve artificially - a better body position. The trick is to try to then recreate that position, without them.
