Introducing our Smarter Homes bloggers
Posted by British Gas in Smarter Living

We have launched a range of ‘smart’ technologies designed to help our customers gain more control over their energy use. These technologies put control back in to your hands and make it easier to decrease your energy wastage.
We have so much confidence in our smart devices that we decided to put them to the test and have enlisted the help of a team of bloggers. Our handpicked bloggers will be trialling everything from smart meters and Remote Heating Control™ to Safe & Secure and electric vehicle charging solutions. They’ll be reporting honestly on the impact these technologies have had in their everyday lives and their relationship with energy. Join them as they chart their smart technology journey here.
Remote Heating Control™
Remote Heating Control™ allows you to control your central heating from anywhere in the world via a laptop, mobile, smartphone or iPad, set a schedule for your household’s temperature and turn your boiler on or off via text message.
The following bloggers will be writing about their experiences with Remote Heating Control™:
Clare Anderson of Seasider in the City
Glenn Barden of Daddy Dazed
Ruth Crilly of A Model Recommends
El Jones of A Thrifty Mrs
Pete Carlson of Frequency Cast
Brenda Cuby of The Green Familia
Cass Bailey of Frugal Family
Christopher Roberts of Technology Bloggers
Safoora Akbar of Gajit
Smart meters
The Government has stipulated that all UK households must have a smart meter by the end of 2019. Smart meters record gas and energy consumption and the smart energy monitor allows our customers to see how much energy they’re using and an indication of what it’s costing in near real time.
Smart meters put you in control of your energy use, allowing you to make real savings. A total of seven bloggers will be trialling smart meters with Geoff Bowen of Latest Gadgets already reporting on his experience and smart meter journey here.
Safe & Secure
Safe & Secure is a wireless home security system that will immediately alert you via email or text if a movement is detected in your home.
The following bloggers will be testing Safe & Secure:
Brett James of Crowded Brain
Rachelle Strauss of Little Green Blog
Becky Goddard-Hill of Baby Budgeting
Tomi Adebayo of Gadgets Boy
Louise Woollam of Get Lippie
Kellie Hill of Big Fashionista
Geoff Bowen of Latest Gadgets
Electric Vehicle charging solution
Our electric vehicle charging solution offers a safe and convenient way to charge electric vehicles at home. We also offer an Off-Peak Saver Tariff, which enables EV owners to charge their cars for less over a period of 20 hours every day.
The following blogger, and electric vehicle owner, has had an electric vehicle home charging solution installed and he’ll be writing about his experiences with it:
Alex Walsh of Dadda Cool
Our team of bloggers will continue to share their experience on these smart technologies, and we’ll regularly update the User Reviews section on our web pages, Smarter Living site, so keep checking back to find out how they are getting on.
We’ll also be holding regular Twitter parties with the bloggers, providing you with the opportunity to ask them questions about the smart technology and how it’s impacting their life, so follow us on Twitter @BritishGas and use the hashtag #BGSmartHomes to ensure you’re a part of it.
