Wind Turbines

The UK has 40% of Europe's total wind energy. This viable source of electricity generation is still largely untapped.*

How Wind Turbines Work

Wind turbines use the wind to turn aerodynamic blades. These blades drive a turbine to generate electricity. The electricity flows through a cable and is collected at a central point where it can be used to power heating, lighting or other machinery.

Requirements

Wind speed increases with height so it's best to install the turbine on a high mast or tower that is free from excessive turbulence and obstructions. Smaller wind turbines can also be mounted on the roof of a building.

Planning permission

Planning permission is usually required for wind turbines.
