Feed-in Tariffs are a Government scheme to encourage people to generate their own low carbon energy.

Feed-in Tariffs are changing for solar PV for installs registered after 12th December 2011. These installs will receive a higher rate (43.3p) for each kWh generated until the end of March 2012, and then a lower rate (expected government announcement to be 21p) for each kWh generated from 1st April 2012 until the end of the 25 year life.

Solar installs registered before 12th December 2011 will receive the higher rate (43.3p) throughout their 25 year life.

How Feed-in Tariff works

You could be paid for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity you generate from a renewable source - even if you use it.

Plus you'll also get paid extra for the electricity you don't use as it'll be fed into the National Grid.

Feed-in Tariff means you could be paid for at least the next 20 years for the electricity you generate from a renewable source (25 years for solar photovoltaic (PV) panels).

And remember, any payments are in addition to the savings you'll make by not having to buy all your electricity from your supplier.
