CO Victim Support
CO-Gas Safety is an independent registered charity committed to reducing accidents from Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning and other gas dangers and supporting gas related accident victims.
The charity has full cross party support at the House of Commons and European Parliament.
CO-Gas Safety was launched in January 1995 and is run by Stephanie Trotter (barrister but not practising at the moment) who has worked as a full time volunteer throughout the charity's existence.
Do please visit the website http://www.co-gassafety.co.uk where there is probably more information than you will ever want to know about the charity and CO! There is also a unique database of accidental deaths, injuries from CO, what to do to avoid CO and what to do if you have been poisoned.
If you have been injured by CO or lost a loved one to CO or gas explosion CO-Gas Safety would like to offer some help to you. The sooner you contact the charity the easier it is for us to help you because evidence can become lost or changed with time.
Centrica supported CO-Gas Safety for three years by matching its Department of Health funding of £16,000 per year. This enabled CO-Gas Safety to set up a website, database and office.
Centrica, and in particular, Chris Bielby, has also helped with a sponsored walk and with CO-Gas Safety's 10 year anniversary event at the House of Commons on 25.01.05.
CO-Gas Safety lobbies the gas companies, the fuel industry in general and the government vigorously with regard to changes in law and practice to reduce deaths and injuries. CO-Gas Safety gave evidence to the All Party Parliamentary Gas Safety Group in July 2006.
CO-Gas Safety only accepts unconditional funding, (apart from of course providing accounts and assuring any donors that any funds will be restricted to the aims of the charity, i.e. reducing deaths and injuries and helping victims and families).
CO-Gas Safety has worked hard to build up some contact with the industry but the charity is fiercely independent and is an organisation set up to help victims and their families.
If anyone has any queries or reservations about CO-Gas Safety's independence, they are strongly urged to put them to the charity and to email office@co-gassafety.co.uk
The charity is grateful to Centrica and British Gas for putting the details about CO-Gas Safety on their website.
