It’s easy to switch to British Gas
We’ve made it smooth and straightforward to switch your energy to British Gas. Once on board, you can manage your account online and discover all sorts of ways to reduce your energy usage and live smarter.
Step 1: Choose a tariff
You will need
- The postcode of the property.
- Your current usage or previous bill amount.
Step 2: Tell us you want to switch
You will need
- The address of the property.
- Your telephone number and email address.
- Your bank account details if you want to pay by Direct Debit.
What happens next?
| Weeks 1-2 | We’ll confirm that you want to switch We’ll write to tell you everything you need to know. We'll also contact your old supplier about your switch. |
| Weeks 3-4 | We'll tell you when your energy will start to come from us We'll let you know your start date.(Make sure you’re up to date with paying bills to your old supplier or this might be delayed). |
| Weeks 5-6 | You’ll give us your opening meter reading To make sure you only pay for the energy you use, please provide us with your your opening meter reading, online or by phone. If you have a pay-as-you-go meter, we’ll send you a free meter key or card which you’ll need to activate when we start supplying your energy. |
| Weeks 7-8 | We'll start supplying your energy We'll write to let you know as soon as we start supplying your energy. We'll set you up with an online account and provide you with an account number to use whenever you get in touch with us. |
