A contact sensor triggers an alarm if a door or window is opened while you're away. It's also useful when you're at home, especially if you have young children or elderly relatives to care for. For example, a sensor will tell you if the front door's been left open, the medicine cabinet's been touched or the freezer door's ajar.

Please buy as many contact sensors as you think you'll need to protect your home.

A SmartPlug lets you monitor how much electricity your household appliances use - both in real time and over a certain period. Simply plug an appliance into the SmartPlug and you can see how much energy's consumed to boil a kettle or vacuum the floor. You can also see the difference between your TV being on standby and switching it off at the wall.

With a SmartPlug, you can remotely control an appliance using your dashboard. So, if you forgot to turn off a fan before leaving the house, you can do it from your iPhone. Or, if you're at work and you want to switch on a light to make it look like you're home, you can do this from your computer.

You can have as many SmartPlugs as you have appliances you want to control.

Also, if you have a larger home or your home is on several floors, you may need two or more SmartPlugs to act as signal boosters for your hub's wireless coverage.

Placing a decoy siren on your home's outside wall acts as a visible deterrent for intruders. It's just the empty 'case' of a normal burglar alarm, so it won't flash or make a noise.

We advise you to have an outdoor siren on the back and front of your property. One of these could be a real siren, the other a decoy.

A smoke detector could save your family's lives. It contains two sensors: one that picks up smoke particles in the air; another that detects a rapid rise in temperature. It's the early warning you need if a fire starts in your home. Once activated, the device will trigger a loud alarm and send alerts to the contacts you've set up in your system.

The fire service advises all households to have at least one smoke detector for every floor of their home.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless, potentially deadly gas. It's produced when household heating and cooking fuels are not fully burnt up. Fast detection is vital and could save your family's lives. The carbon monoxide detector uses an electrochemical sensor to pick up CO in the air, and will trigger your alarms and alerts before there's any danger.

You should have a carbon monoxide detector in your kitchen and nearby any gas or electric fires.

The invisible gas, methane (CH4), which you use to cook and heat your home, is harmful if inhaled and highly flammable. It can pose risk of suffocation and, when in contact with a spark from a faulty appliance or even turning on a light, it can cause an explosion.

Although most gas contains an additive, an artificial odour to your gas supply, a gas detector will spot a leak much faster than you can, triggering your alarms and alerts before there's any danger.

We recommend that you have a gas leak detector in your kitchen and nearby your boiler, hot water tank and any gas fires.

Protect your home and possessions from the expense, hassle and heartbreak of accidental water damage. The water leak detector has a sensing probe, which will trigger your alarms and alerts as soon as it comes into contact with water. So, no matter where you are, you can act quickly to avert a soggy disaster.

We suggest that you have a water leak detector where there's risk of leakage or flooding, for example in your kitchen, porch or basement.

An indoor siren acts as a deterrent to intruders and a warning to you. While all our safety devices have loud sounders built in, the indoor siren is even louder. Also, you can place it somewhere central, so you can hear it no matter how far from any particular safety device. The siren is tamper proof, so the alarm sounds if an intruder tries to open its cover or take if off the wall. Once sounded, the siren is extremely disorientating for any intruder.

You shouldn't need more than one indoor siren.

An outdoor siren acts as a visual deterrent to potential intruders and, if that doesn't dissuade them, a very loud alarm when triggered. It can be set up to be triggered by your motion sensors, contact sensors and Control button. The siren is tamper proof, so the alarm sounds if an intruder tries to open its cover or take if off the wall.

We advise you to have one outdoor siren, and perhaps also a decoy siren to cover the other side of your property.

You can use this wireless "control button" in two different ways as a "panic button" or a door bell.

You might place a control button next to your front and back doors.

The hub connects to and manages the Safe & Secure devices shown above. It allows you to control and monitor these devices wirelessly. Its about the same size as a normal broadband router.
