Feed-in Tariff
Get paid for producing your own electricity
Feed–in Tariffs are a Government scheme to encourage people to generate their own low
carbon energy.
Feed-in Tariffs are changing for solar PV installations registered after 12th December 2011. These installs may receive a higher rate (43.3p) for each kWh generated until the end of March 2012, and then a lower rate (expected government announcement to be 21p) for each kWh generated from 1st April 2012 until the end of the 25 year life.
The Government is facing a legal challenge over households who have solar panels installed between 12 December 2011 and 3 March 2012. There is uncertainty over whether these households will receive the higher payment of 43.3p or the lower rate of 21p after April 2012 for the remainder of their 25 year term.
If the Government are not given leave to appeal at the Supreme Court those installed up until 3rd March would get 43.3p for 25 years from the date of commissioning.
How does the Feed-in Tariff work
You could be paid for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity you generate from a renewable source - even if you use it.
Plus you'll also get paid extra for the electricity you don't use as it'll be fed into the Grid.
Feed-in Tariff means you could be paid for at least the next 20 years for the electricity you generate from a renewable source (25 years for solar photovoltaic (PV) panels).
And remember, any payments are in addition to the savings you'll make by not having to buy all your electricity from your supplier.
Please read our terms and conditions.
How much could I earn
With solar PV panels you could earn on average £411 with the Feed-in Tariff annually based on figures calculated using our 2.3 kWp solar PV system and the expected 21p Feed-in Tariff rate from 1st April 2012.*
