Record breaking solar installation
We're installing the largest industry connected solar array
Construction started in May on the £12.4 million project, which will supply 5 per cent of Toyota’s energy needs and save 2,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
We have been working with Toyota for more than nine months in preparation for this project. Planning consent was granted in a record time of 31 days, due to the work put in demonstrating the project works in harmony with the environment and helping Toyota with their award winning eco plant initiatives.
Preparation for the planning application included an ecology survey and method statement, approval from Natural England, and a visual impact study for a local airfield.
The system will generate a massive 3.6 million kWh of electricity per year from 16,800 Sharp solar panels (245w each), connected by 100 km of cable. It covers land equivalent to 14 football pitches and generates enough power to provide electricity for over 1,000 homes each year.
Simon Baggaley, head of Strategic Projects for British Gas Solar
“It’s a great example of the close working relationships British Gas Solar builds with commercial clients.
“Our inter company project team has developed not only the main installation, but several ground breaking showcase installations, and a series of employee and customer benefits for Toyota.”
The project is on track to begin delivering power to Toyota next month (July).
