How do you get a £100,000 house for the cost of a second-hand car? Answer: Make it out of cob. Nothing to do with sweetcorn, although it does come from the ground. Charlotte Eve and Kate Edwards discovered this material, which is made from mud, straw and hay, when they were out searching for their first home together. While on the Norfolk Broads, they cycled up a quiet country lane to find a 400-year-old cob house – the place they now call home. Keeping it authentic by using cob as a building material, Charlotte and Kate transformed this one room cottage into a stunning two-storey home.
