Enjoy half-price electricity with a PeakSave tariff

Why upgrade to a PeakSave Super Sunday tariff? 

If you're currently on PeakSave Sundays, moving to a PeakSave Super Sunday tariff rewards you with three extra hours of half-price electricity – eight hours in total, from 9am to 5pm every Sunday, instead of five.¹ 

Savings are built straight into the tariff, so you can see them in the green bars on your energy use graphs in your online account or app. 

With PeakSave Sundays, half-price electricity is an added extra on top of your existing tariff, whatever plan you're on. You get five hours of cheaper electricity every Sunday from 11am to 4pm.¹

You pay for your electricity as normal, then we credit half the cost back to your bill or meter. You also get a monthly summary showing what you've saved. 

You'll pay your daily standing charge at your normal rate. This will not be discounted.¹

Can I switch from PeakSave Sundays to a Super Sunday tariff?

Yes. Simply go to your online account, select 'Change' or 'Switch' tariff and choose it from your available plans.

A PeakSave Super Sunday tariff rewards you with three extra hours of half-price electricity – eight hours in total, from 9am to 5pm every Sunday, instead of five.¹

Once you select your PeakSave Super Sunday tariff, you cannot switch back to PeakSave Sundays.

You'll pay your daily standing charge at your normal rate. This will not be discounted.¹

Are PeakSave tariffs available if you have a prepayment meter?

Not yet – but they're coming soon. You'll need a smart prepayment meter, as that's how we work out how much electricity you use at cheaper times. 

If you don't have one yet, it's easy to book your free installation. Just log in to your account and see if there's an upgrade invitation. If not, check back regularly. 

I get cheaper electricity 11am to 4pm with PeakSave Sundays – do I need to change to a PeakSave tariff?

No, PeakSave Sundays will carry on as normal.

A PeakSave tariff may be a better option if you'd like more hours of half-price electricity on a Sunday.

What are peak hours for using electricity?

Peak electricity hours tend to be in the morning when people are getting ready to head out to work and school and, in the evening, when they're returning and making evening meals. Therefore, electricity use peaks at around 7am to 11am and then again from 5pm to 9pm.

With a PeakSave tariff, electricity is half price on Sundays between 9am and 5pm – giving you eight hours of cheaper electricity – helping you save money and cut carbon.¹

You'll pay your daily standing charge at your normal rate. This will not be discounted.¹

How do you know how much half-price electricity I use?

Your smart meter sends readings every 30 minutes, so we can calculate exactly how much electricity you use during PeakSave hours.

With PeakSave tariffs, half-price electricity is built into your energy plan. You have two different unit rates for your electricity, one for standard hours and one for PeakSave hours. For example: 

• Standard unit rate: 24.50p/kWh (after VAT)
• PeakSave rate: 12.25p/kWh during off‑peak hours 

You still pay your daily standing charge at your normal rate and it's not discounted.

And if you go to your online account or app, you can see your savings from the green bars in your energy use graphs. 

With PeakSave Sundays, every Sunday between 11am and 4pm, any electricity you use is also half price. You pay for the electricity you use as normal, then we credit your account or meter back with half of what you spent. Again, you pay your daily standing charge at your normal rate and it's not discounted. 

The amount you earn depends on your energy tariff, unit rate and how much electricity you use at PeakSave times.

When your electricity is cheaper, we multiply the number of units you use by 50% of your tariff unit rate after VAT (p/kWh). For example:

• You're a customer on our Standard Variable Tariff with an electricity unit rate of 24.50p/kWh (after VAT) 
• 50% of your unit rate is 12.25p/kWh (after VAT)
• You use 5 kWh of electricity during your PeakSave hours
• 5 kWh x 12.25p/kWh = 61.25p
• Your credit for taking part is 61p 

We round payments to the nearest penny. So if you earn a 55.5p credit, we'll round this up to 56p. If you earn 55.4p, we'll round this down to 55p. 

We credit this back to your bill or meter, and you get a monthly summary to show your savings. 

Can I take part in PeakSave if I'm on your EV tariff?

You can only be on one energy plan at a time, so you'll need to weigh up which is better for you – a PeakSave tariff or an EV tariff.

If you charge your EV during PeakSave hours, double-check your tariff unit rates first. If you usually charge overnight on a discounted rate and don't normally top up during the day, you could end up paying more on a PeakSave tariff – even with half-price electricity.

If you’re signed up to PeakSave Sundays, you can continue to take part. It's an added extra on top of your existing tariff, whatever that is. 

What if there are problems with my smart meter?

With PeakSave Sundays, if your smart meter can't tell us how much electricity you've used, we'll still credit your account. We work out an average based on smart meter data from other PeakSavers during the five-hour window, then multiply that by your unit rate to calculate your credit.

If you want to sign up to a PeakSave tariff, you will need a working smart meter.

If you’re already on a PeakSave tariff and your bill or statement doesn’t show any electricity charged at your half-price rate, please get in touch. We’ll look into it and try to fix the issue with your smart meter. 

What is flexible energy? 

Energy systems need to continuously match supply to demand. This is called energy balancing. Flexible energy, or flexible demand, helps energy systems maintain this balance during periods of uncertainty. 

In the past, this used to mean firing a generator up or down to meet the changing levels in energy usage. We used to hear how at half-time during the FA Cup Final, there was a huge spike in demand, as the nation reached for the kettle. Behind the scenes it meant power stations burning more coal (and sometimes even oil) to allow the country to have a simultaneous cup of tea. Now we can achieve grid flexibility through new methods, including energy storage, demand-side response (or flexible demand), and distributed generation (generating low carbon electricity at home or work, through solar panels or wind turbines, often paired with battery storage). 

We're exploring new ways we can supply cleaner, greener energy and help customers save money through flexible energy use, and PeakSave rewards customers for changing how and when they use electricity, helping to reduce demand at its busiest. This helps to balance the grid and means we're less reliant on fossil fuels to meet that demand, making our electricity more sustainable.

Can I take part in PeakSave if I own rooftop solar panels and battery storage?

You can only be on one energy plan at a time. So, if you're on a solar or battery tariff, you'll need to work out which is best for you.

If you’re signed up to PeakSave Sundays, you can continue to take part. It's an added extra on top of your existing tariff, whatever that is.

Just bear in mind that your credits will depend on your electricity use and generation, and how your battery is configured.

If you're on a PeakSave tariff, go to your online account and select 'Moving home details', where you can update your new address.
