What is the electricity Bill Discount Scheme?
The government’s electricity Bill Discount Scheme, sometimes known as Pylon Payments, could give eligible households up to £250 a year off their electricity costs for up to 10 years.
What is the scheme?
It’s designed to help people who live near certain new or upgraded parts of the electricity network, such as pylons or power lines.
Eligible households will receive money off their electricity costs each year.
The scheme applies to qualifying projects where construction starts between 10th March 2025 and 1st January 2040. The first payments are expected to be made from April 2027.
How much could I receive?
Eligible households could get up to £250 a year, for up to 10 years. Most will get this discount as money off their electricity bill. If this isn't possible, an equivalent payment will be made instead.
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if your home is within 500 metres of qualifying new or significantly upgraded electricity infrastructure, depending on when they’re built. If you’re close to more than one qualifying project, you'll only receive one payment
You don’t need to check – if you’re eligible, you’ll get the discount automatically when it goes live.
Who runs the scheme?
Ofgem is responsible for deciding who is eligible, managing applications and handling appeals.
Our role
As an electricity supplier, we'll give bill discounts or payments to eligible customers and share important updates.
Landlords and managed properties
If your electricity is supplied through a landlord or another organisation, you'll be able to apply through a government-run application process instead.
If they receive the discount on your behalf, they must pass it on to you if you're eligible.
