Working with the Post Office. Money and energy advice in the community
Specialist advisors are once again visiting Post Offices across Britain to talk about the support available to help manage money and energy bills.
Local support at the Post Office
Everyone is entitled to help and advice when they need it. But not everyone has access to the internet, especially some of the most vunerable households.
Working with our long term partner the Post Office and British Gas Energy Trust we’re running in-person community pop up events in Post Offices across Great Britain.
We’ve already hosted 128 pop-ups in 70 locations from Saint Leonards-on-Sea to the Scottish Isles and we’ve reached out to thousands of people to help raise awareness of the support available.
But we’re ready to do more. From September 2023 to March 2024 trained money and energy advisors will be on hand again to help households get specialist advice and support local to them.
Talk to independent experts about money and energy advice
We understand it can be difficult to talk about energy worries and debt and how that can impact physical and mental wellbeing. We’ll be setting up a quiet area within the Post Office for people to get 1-2-1 confidential advice from trained specialists about the support that’s available. We’ll also have a leaflet to take away with contact details of all British Gas Energy Trust funded organisations.
Raising awareness of the support available for energy debt
Professor Green, rapper and mental health campaigner, has once again pledged his support in helping to raise widespread awareness and encourage people to access the help they’re entitled to.
He has first-hand experience of the fear and anxiety an upcoming energy bill can have on families, having grown up with his grandmother who struggled to pay the household bills.
Hear from people the British Gas Energy Trust
have already helped
Professor Green speaks to Farzana about her experience of energy debt and how The British Gas Energy Trust was able to help.
Who are the British Gas Energy Trust?
The British Gas Energy Trust, incorporating the Scottish Gas Energy Trust1 is an independent charitable Trust funded solely by donations from British Gas. The Trust contributes to supporting those in financial difficulty, with a focus on energy debt. The Trust can help vulnerable households no matter who the energy supplier is.
Since 2004 over £175m2 has been donated to the Trust to help those most in need. And to help with high energy costs, British Gas has increased its support for customers with the UK’s biggest ever energy support package.
How can the Trust help?
The Trust funds charitable organisations to provide fuel and money advice directly to local communities. You can find a list of Trust-funded organisations and links to other advice agencies who might be able to help on the Trust’s Fuel and money advice page.
