Can air conditioners also be used for heating?
Yes. Our air conditioning units offer rapid on-demand heating and cooling. So you can use them to heat and cool your home – and both functions are highly energy-efficient.
Does British Gas offer mobile or window aircon units?
No, we don’t offer mobile or window aircon units. We focus on fixed air conditioning systems, including multi‑split setups that can heat and cool up to five rooms. The models we recommend offer high levels of efficiency, comfort and long‑term performance.
Is air conditioning noisy?
Our systems are designed to run quietly. We install quiet air conditioning units that are suitable for bedrooms, home offices and shared living spaces. Our recommended models include the Bosch 3200i, which has ultra-quiet modes. These only produce 20dB of noise, which is comparable to a watch ticking from a distance.
What does kW mean?
kW stands for kilowatt and is used to measure the output of an air conditioning unit. The higher the kW rating, the more cooling and heating power the system provides. Bigger rooms (or spaces that tend to get warmer) will need a higher kW unit.
What size aircon do I need?
The size of your air conditioning unit is based primarily on the room size, with other factors like sunlight and layout also considered. Do I need planning permission for aircon?
Planning permission usually isn’t needed for home air conditioning. But you might need it if you live in a flat, listed building or conservation area. You might also need it if the outside unit is installed at the front of your property, or if you already have another outside unit – for a heat pump, for example. If you’re unsure, we can help you check.
Can I choose where the unit is located?
We’ll work with you to agree the best location for your system, to ensure you get the best performance and the best aesthetics for your home.
Can air conditioning help me sleep better?
Yes, keeping your bedroom at a comfortable temperature can help create better sleep conditions. Our air conditioning systems also filter out pollen, dust and pollution in the room, providing purer air at night.
Can I install air conditioning myself?
No, aircon systems need to be installed by a trained and F-Gas certified engineer. For this reason, we don’t offer aircon without installation. All our systems include professional fitting to ensure they’re installed safely and correctly.
Do air conditioning units need servicing?
Yes. Regular servicing helps keep your air conditioning running efficiently and reduces the chance of issues over time. You also need regular servicing to maintain the manufacturer’s guarantee.
Does my air conditioning come with a guarantee?
Yes. All our systems include a manufacturer’s guarantee2, and we’ll register it for you as part of the installation.
Can I finance my aircon installation?
Yes. If you don’t want to pay in a single payment, British Gas offers a whole range of options1 for spreading the cost into manageable monthly amounts.
Who can get aircon with British Gas?
You can get ac units installed in most types of home, but there are a few simple requirements. You’ll need to be a residential homeowner, not commercial. Ground floor and first floor rooms are possible, but not anything higher. And the maximum number of rooms you can cover is five.
