Fridge or freezer problems
If you're having fridge or freezer problems and you’re covered by our kitchen appliance cover, just book an engineer online.
If not, have a look at the questions below to see if we can help you fix the problem.
What can I do if my fridge or freezer's too cold?
Check the thermostat is set to the right temperature - you'll usually find it inside the fridge or freezer. A fridge should be between 2°C to 6°C and a freezer should be less than -18°C, typically -19°C to -20°C, but your user manual will tell you the setting it needs.
If you try adjusting the thermostat and still have the problem, book one of our engineers to take a look.
What can I do if my fridge or freezer isn't cold enough?
Try these steps:
- Check the door is closed properly, or hasn't been left often for a while recently.
- Check the thermostat is set to the right temperature - your user manual will tell you how to do this.
- If you have a fridge-freezer, check if it has a fast freeze switch - if it does, switch it on and call an engineer.
Is it normal my fridge or freezer is hot around the door?
Yes, it usually is as some models use side panels to take away the heat and stop the door from freezing shut.
What if there's water on the outside of my fridge or freezer?
It's probably just condensation and not usually a problem. Book one of our engineers online if it gets very bad.
Why is my fridge or freezer making a strange noise?
It might just be pushed back against the wall, making its normal vibrations sound louder. Clicking noises from time to time could mean the motor's overheating. If you think it is turn your fridge or freezer off and book one of our engineers online.
Can you help me get the light inside working?
Yes, try turning off the electricity to your fridge or freezer at your fuse box. Then check the manufacturer's guide to see how to replace the bulb.
Why is there ice on the back panel?
Ice is normal in some fridges and freezers that aren't frost-free. If yours is supposed to be, then the defrost cycle isn't working and you should book one of our engineers online.
What do I do if I can see sparks coming from my fridge or freezer, or smell burning?
