Video call safety guide
At British Gas, the safety of our customers is our top priority. We’ve created the following points to help you before and during the video call.

A few days before your video call, make sure
A few days before your video call, make sure
You consider how easily and safely you can access the areas we need to view. This is likely to be around the existing boiler and flue, gas and electric meters and airing cupboard and tanks, if you have them
We don’t want anybody climbing on furniture to reach awkward spaces, but if you have items blocking access inside or outside the property, consider clearing them in advance where possible
On the day of your video call, make sure
Your smartphone or tablet is fully charged so you have enough battery to complete the call
It will be useful to have a torch, meter key and tape measure to hand
You put away any documents with personal information, so they can't be seen
During your video call, make sure
You don’t touch any electrical wiring, especially if they’re exposed
You aren’t distracted by family members or pets. Their safety is as important as yours
You wear suitable footwear if we need you to go into an outside area, like the front of the house or garden. As you know, our weather can change in seconds, be mindful that it could be slippery or dark outside. If it is dark outside, make sure there’s adequate lighting so you can see where you’re going
If at any point you don’t feel safe, please let our heating adviser know
