What can I do if my machine won't turn on?
Try the below and if it's still not fixed, book one of our engineers online.
Check that the door is shut properly
Check the electricity hasn't been turned off and it has power
Check your machine is plugged in
Check if the fuse needs replacing
If it still won't turn on, call an engineer
What can I do if the drum won't rotate?
Make sure the machine isn't set to 'no spin'. Uneven loads can also stop a spin so avoid washing single items or overloading the machine. Remove some clothes and see if the drum starts working.
What if there's no water in the machine?
Check that the isolation taps on the appliance are turned on. If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair.
What can I do if my machine's leaking?
What to try:
Check that the door is shut properly
Turn off the electricity
Turn the water supply off at the stopcock - in most houses, the stopcock is under the kitchen sink
Check where the leak is coming from. If it's the soap drawer, try cleaning it out. If it's the drain pipe, your drain might be blocked
If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair.
Why are my clothes coming out hot after a spin?
Sometimes the rinse pipe for cold water can be connected to the hot water, so your clothes might have been rinsed with hot water instead. Use your machine's user manual to check their positions.
Why are my clothes coming out torn?
Usually a loose zip or strap on your clothes has got caught in the drum, however the drum may be damaged. If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair.
Why is my machine noisy?
Check there isn't anything loose that's rattling around in the drum, like coins, keys or zips. If there's nothing there, it's possible that the drum bearings may be damaged. If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair.
Why are my clothes still wet?
It could be for a few reasons.
What to try:
Check it's not set to a low heat
Check your filter isn't blocked - your user manual should tell you how to do this
Check a vent hose isn't blocked - again, your user manual should tell you where to look
Make sure you're not overloading the machine
Why is my machine stopping mid-wash?
Make sure the 'rinse-hold' button isn't on. If it's not, a component might be broken. If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair.
Why won't my machine empty?
Check the filter isn't blocked - your user manual will tell you how to do this but be careful, it can cause a flood.
Is it a problem the glass is hot?
No, that's completely normal so enjoy the extra heat.
What if my machine fills with water when it's turned off?
What to try:
Turn off the hot and cold isolation taps connected to the machine. They may be behind the washing machine or under the sink. If your machine's recent, there may only be a cold water tap
If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair
What do I do if my machine keeps blowing a fuse or tripping the circuit breaker?
If it's just your machine with the problem and you've got it covered with our kitchen appliance cover, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair.
Can you help me with my gas tumble dryer?
Try the steps below, using your machine's manual to help.
What to try:
Check the gas and electricity are turned on - they can easily be turned off
Turn any controls on the front of the machine to their highest setting, but don't touch any control panel or cover that needs to be removed with specialist tools
If we cover your machine, book one of our engineers online. If not you can book a one-off repair
Why does my washing machine smell?
There could be lots of reasons, but it's likely it's just too many smelly socks. The best thing is to try a service wash - a very hot wash at 90 degrees with no clothes, just detergent. Look at your user manual for help on how to do it.
If you try a service wash and it still smells, then book one of our engineers to take a look.
