Symptoms and signs of hard water

Signs of hard water

If you have a hard time getting bubbles in your bath or shower, you probably have hard water. And if your kettle is always full of scale, or if you have stiff, leaky or discoloured taps then you might have a problem with limescale too.

Limescale build-up

Your taps and showers may eventually become unusable due to limescale build up and your kettle will take longer to boil, which will use more energy and cost you more money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a water softener?

If you live in part of the UK with hard water, the limescale can damage your central heating and leave limescale in your dishwasher, kettle and washing machine.

Why do I need a CombiSave valve?

A CombiSave is a simple valve that monitors the temperature of your water. If you have a Combi boiler and find you spend a lot of time waiting for your water to heat up to the right temperature, a CombiSave could be a good solution for you. They're also a good idea if you're on a water meter as they'll help you save water and lower your bills as a result.

Why do I need a mains water switch or Surestop?

If there's a water leak in your home or you need to turn off your water immediately, the Surestop button will do that in a flick of a switch. If you have a stopcock that's hard to reach or very stiff and hard to turn off, a Surestop is a quick, accessible way to turn of your mains water in an emergency.

Why do I need pipe protection?

Your boiler's waste pipe may go outside and can freeze in cold weather, stopping your boiler from working. A Condensulate or a trace heater can prevent that. A Condensulate is an insulated pipe that can cope with temperatures of up to -15C.
