New Jobs Announced – Case Study - James Ellerby, Edinburgh

James explained: “When I left the Royal Navy I wasn’t sure where to take my career next, but I knew I wanted a role that would give me long-term prospects. So when I heard about the opportunities for progression offered by Scottish Gas, I jumped at the chance."

James applied to Scottish Gas, and after successfully completing an assessment and passing an interview, secured a position as a Customer Service Advisor.

James continued. “When I found out I’d got the job with Scottish Gas I was over the moon. The opportunity to work with such a well-known company was exciting, and I could see real potential to build a bright future and successful career.

“The training and support I’ve been given has been excellent, it’s really given me the knowledge, skills and confidence I need to deliver excellent customer service.

“Working to resolve customer enquiries is really rewarding, and I’ve had the chance to speak to people from all backgrounds and walks of life, which keeps the job interesting.

“Coming from a service-background I was initially apprehensive about how I’d fit in back on shore, but my colleagues and managers have all been really welcoming and helpful. It’s a great working atmosphere.

“In the short time I've been with Scottish Gas I’ve already become aware of the wide variety of opportunities available to progress with the company.

“In the future I hope to be able to continue to develop my skills and take advantage of the opportunities Scottish Gas offers to build a long-term career.

“Based on my experience to date, I’d recommend a job with Scottish Gas to anyone looking for real opportunities for progression."
