Four community organisations in Glasgow have been shortlisted to take part in an online competition that offers the chance for much-needed DIY tasks to be completed, free of charge, by local tradesmen.

The organisations are Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Fareshare, Quarriers Mavisbank Respite Centre and Street Connect.

The winning organisation will be selected based on how many votes they receive in an online poll.  Residents from across the city can vote for one of the centres, and help them to secure the makeover by visiting www.localheroes.com/vote to vote.

Voting is open until 2nd May, with the winning community organisation receiving its free makeover on 12th May.

The competition marks the official launch of Local Heroes, an online service where you can find a Scottish Gas-accredited local tradesman to carry out plumbing, electrics, drains and heating jobs in the home.

This new, local service provides an instant online booking method, with clear and fair pricing, no call-out charge and a 12-month guarantee that is backed by Scottish Gas.

Sarwjit Sambhi, Managing Director of UK Home at Scottish Gas, said:  “Trying to find a reliable and reputable tradesman can be a stressful and challenging experience.”

“Local Heroes removes the stress and instils confidence through a 12-month Scottish Gas guarantee on all work that’s undertaken by our accredited tradesmen.”
