By 2020 all British Gas customers will be able to claim smart meters which will be installed for free by one of our specially trained Smart Energy Experts. This is part of a government led national upgrade scheme to improve energy efficiency in Great Britain. We are working with Smart Energy GB, the voice of the smart meter roll out, to help our customers understand what smart meters are.
We are working hard to ensure all our customers can benefit from smart meters now, but smart meter technology is not ready for every home just yet.
Log in to find out if your home is ready for smart meters. All we ask is that you have either your electricity or your gas and electricity with us. If your home isn’t ready, we will add you to our waiting list. We’ll keep you updated and let you know when you can get them installed.

You’ll receive one discount of £15 per year when you have both gas & electricity with us at the same property.

 Where you have both gas and electricity with us at the same property, you'll receive one Dual Fuel discount of £15 per year (including VAT). The discount will be continuously applied to your bill throughout your billing period if you use a credit meter or applied to your meter at least once a year if you use a prepayment meter. If you cancel this agreement (for example by switching to another energy supplier), you will receive a Dual Fuel discount for the number of days you have been with us during that one year period.
British Gas is a signatory to the Smart Metering Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP) which has been approved by Ofgem.
