Energy saving top tip: You don’t need to pre-cook the apple on the hob or turn the oven on to make a delicious crumble – make use of your microwave to save lots of time and energy.

· 1 large apple, peeled, cored and diced

· 1 tbsp soft brown sugar

· ½ tsp cinnamon

Ingredients for the crumble:

· 2 tbsp (30g) butter

· 1 tbsp soft brown sugar

· 2 heaped tbsp plain flour

· 15g chopped pecan nuts

1. Chop the apple into small pieces and place into a mug along with the brown sugar and cinnamon.

2. Cover with cling film and pierce a few times, then pop in the microwave for one minute.

3. While the apple is cooking, make the crumble – rub the butter into the brown sugar and flour until it clumps together to look like crumble, and then stir in the pecan nuts.

4. Pour any excess liquid out of the mug, then top with the pecan crumble and microwave for 60-90 seconds until cooked through.

5. Allow to cool briefly and then your autumnal delight is ready.
