Choosing a tariff
What is the best battery tariff for my home?
Charge Power is ideal for customers with a battery and any other smart tech, whether that’s solar panels, EV chargers, heat pumps or more.
Store&Save and Store&Reward are designed for customers with no other smart tech, looking to get their first battery.
What is the difference between battery tariffs?
Charge Power is open to all customers with a battery, and offers half-price electricity between 12am to 5am every night, totalling 35 hours of cheaper electricity each week!
Store&Save and Store&Reward are both exclusive tariffs for customers with no smart tech, who install a battery only through our partner. Store&Save offers discounted electricity 24/7, whilst Store&Reward provides monthly bill credit to cover the cost of your new battery install.
Can I use the cheaper off-peak times of Charge Power for other things?
Yes. The other great thing is, you’re not just limited to charging your home battery during those cheaper off-peak hours. Any electricity you use during those hours will be charged at the lower rate too.
Can I sign up for a SEG and a battery tariff?
For Charge Power, yes! And as a British Gas electricity customer you’ll automatically get our best SEG export tariff rate of up to 12p per kWh – four times more than our Export SEG tariff at 3p per kWh. You’ll need a solar and battery installation to be eligible. You can apply for SEG online.
Unfortunately you can’t apply for SEG on the Store&Save and Store&Reward tariffs.
What’s the difference between the EV and battery tariffs?
Our EV Power tariff is available to customer who have an electric vehicle only. Our Charge Power tariff is available to customers who have a home battery. If you have an EV and home battery you are eligible for our Charge Power tariff.
Do battery tariffs work with electric vehicles, heat pumps and other smart tech?
You can still join our Charge Power battery tariff and use the off-peak period to charge your battery, EV and other technology. However, you will not be eligible for our Store&Save and Store&Reward tariffs.
If you have other smart tech at home like an EV charger or a heat pump, then our Heat Power or EV Power tariffs could be more suitable.
Managing your battery
What does it mean when my supplier manages my battery?
This means your supplier, in this case British Gas, will take care of your battery’s charging schedules. It’ll give you more peace of mind as we’ll shift your energy use to cheaper times for you.
In return through our Store&Save and Store&Reward tariffs, we can provide unique benefits in the form of super cheap anytime electricity with Store&Save, or monthly bill credit to cover your battery install costs through Store&Reward.
Can I control my battery myself?
If you’re on the Charge Power tariff, you’ll have full control of charging your battery. With Store&Save and Store&Reward, we will manage the charging for you. If you wish to take control yourself, you can switch over to Charge Power in your online account.
How do I schedule my home battery?
When you get a home battery installed, you’ll be able to control it via an app. You can set schedules so your battery automatically charges during off-peak hours, and discharges during the peak hours. This means you’ll benefit from cheaper electricity and save more, without having to manually program anything yourself. Please get in touch with your app provider if you need more help.
With Store&Save and Store&Reward tariffs, we manage your battery schedule for you, giving you more time to focus on other things.
What if my battery stops working?
If your battery stops working, you will need to contact your battery installer to resolve the problem.

Do I need a smart electricity meter to sign-up for a battery tariff?
Yes, for Charge Power and our Store&Save and Store&Reward tariffs, you’ll need a smart meter. If you don’t have one, you can arrange for a free installation from your online account.
For Charge Power, we need to know how much energy you’re using during the day and during the cheaper night-time hours so that we can give you an accurate bill. Without a smart electricity meter, you won’t be able to get the lower unit rate at night. You can arrange a smart meter installation for free in your online account.
Do I need a smart gas meter to sign up for a battery tariff?
No, you only need a smart electricity meter. However, if you have a gas supply in your home, we’d always recommend having a smart gas meter too. We can fit one for free if you’re interested – just log in to your online account to book an appointment.
I have a smart electricity meter, why isn’t the battery tariff showing in my online account?
It could be because your smart meter isn’t working properly, or your meter was installed by another supplier and isn’t communicating with us. Chat online with one of our friendly advisers and we’ll look into this for you.
What happens if my smart meter stops working after I sign up for a battery tariff?
If your smart meter stops sending us readings, please get in touch so we can find out what's happening and fix your meter.
If your smart meter becomes non-communicative, we will notify you, and you will need to book a free smart meter engineer visit to resolve the issue or replace your smart meter. If you do not accept a booking within a reasonable amount of time, you may be removed from this tariff.
