How much does a boiler repair cost?
The price for your boiler repair depends on how long it takes. We charge £125 for the first 45 minutes, and £40 for every 15 minutes after that. Last year, around 40% of our repairs were done within the first 45 minutes, so they only cost £125. When you choose British Gas, you can relax knowing you’ll only pay for our time – parts and labour are always included in that price.
What kind of boiler repairs do you carry out?
We repaired around 1.8 million boilers in 2023 – and nobody knows boilers like a British Gas engineer. Whatever the problem and whatever the make and model, we can help to get things working again. Here are some of the most common reasons we’re called out:
- No hot water or heating in the home
- Boiler is showing an error code
- Strange noises from boiler
- Boiler doesn’t ignite
- Loss of boiler pressure
- Broken timers, controls or thermostats
- Leaking pipes or radiators
- Boiler won’t start
What should I do if I already have HomeCare?
If you already have HomeCare for your heating, you can go ahead and book your repair from your online account. You don’t need to choose the One-off Repair or Fix for Free options.
Do you repair every type of boiler?
Our engineers fix single natural gas or liquid petroleum gas boilers or warm air units designed for home use.
What if I have more than one problem with my boiler?
The initial repair doesn’t include any unrelated faults. We’ll quote separately for other work needed for unrelated faults. This may happen if, for example, you’ve called us about a boiler breakdown but also ask us to fix a leaking radiator.
What if I want to cancel my initial boiler repair?
If we haven't started work on your boiler, you can contact us to cancel your repair. If you chose the Repair & Cover option, we'll also cancel your cover at the same time.
If we’ve already started the work, you may have to pay a cancellation charge for the work completed – see terms and conditions for details.
What if I want to cancel my ongoing boiler cover?
You can cancel your Central Heating Breakdown Cover at any time, whether during the 14-day cooling-off period or afterwards. However, if we've done any work for you then you'll have to pay cancellation charges.
What if I have more than one appliance/electrical problem that needs fixing?
Just choose one of the appliances you're having problems with and we'll chat about your other appliances/electrical issues when we speak over the phone.

Annual prices may vary depending on where you live. Your call out history is taken into account at renewal. Call centre times are, 8am to 8pm Mon-Fri & 8am to 6pm Sat/Sun. We may record calls to help improve our service to you. Calls to 0330/0333 numbers will cost you no more than 01 or 02 numbers from landlines and mobiles. If you get 'inclusive minutes' with your package, calls to 0330/0333 numbers will be part of these.
