Ways to help with the cost
Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF):
The government's Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) is designed to help homeowners apply for cash to pay for energy efficiency improvements, such as double glazing, boilers and solid wall insulation. The funding available for solid wall insulation means you can claim up to £3,750 off the total cost. Cash is released by the government in batches with exact amounts and dates announced only days before the release.
Before you can apply for the GDHIF, you'll need:
- An insulation quote from a Green Deal Accredited Installer, such as British Gas
- An Energy Performance Certificate less than two years old or a Green Deal Assessment Report, which British Gas can provide
Green Deal Communities scheme:
Local authorities across the country have been given funds to help deliver the Government’s Green Deal home energy efficiency improvement programme. Households will benefit from energy efficiency home improvements like solid wall insulation so that they can be warm, have more energy efficient homes and better control of their heating bills. Contact your local authority to see if your home could benefit.
British Gas in partnership with Plymouth County Council and PECC:
British Gas is working in partnership with Plymouth City Council and Plymouth Energy Community (PECC). So, if you live in the Plymouth area, call us today and find out if your home could benefit.
You could finance the remaining cost of the solid wall insulation when combined with the GDHIF funding or finance the whole job.
British Gas is working as a credit broker on behalf of Barclays Partner Finance in the West Midlands. We can discuss finance options with you during your survey, starting from 0% APR.
Working out your homes wall type
If your home has covered brickwork, you can measure the width of the walls surrounding the windows and doors.
Solid walls will usually be less than 260mm, if your walls are wider they will probably have cavities.
If your home has an irregular brick pattern with both long and short edges of the bricks on show, usually means it has solid walls.
If your home has a regular brick pattern, showing the long edge of the brick only, usually means you have a cavity.
Keep your home warm and your heating costs down
With solid wall insulation, your home will warm up quicker and stay cosier for longer. Plus, you'll save on your heating bills.
The exact amount depends on your home. But to give you an idea if you've got a semi-detached home you'll save up to £260, every single year (This is what the Energy Savings Trust estimate, you can find out more at http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/domestic/content/solid-wall).

Here's how we'll install it for you
Your solid wall insulation will be tailor-made for your home. We'll arrange for one of our Energy Experts to survey your property. They'll suggest the appropriate solid wall insulation and you choose the colour for the final render.
We'll install it in these simple steps - in around three weeks:
We'll put scaffolding on the outside of your home, removing any fixtures as we go.
We'll apply your insulation with the colour and texture of your choice.
We'll then put back any fixtures, remove the scaffold, leaving you with a new, warmer home that looks great.
