What's the Priority Services Register?
The Priority Services Register allows customers who need extra support additional services, such as different bill formats like Braille, or advanced warning when there's a planned interruption of supply.
Who can register?
- People of pensionable age.
- Disabled people.
- Chronically sick people.

What do you get?
Supply Interruption Advance Warnings
Your Network Operator will get in touch if your energy supply is going to be interrupted. They’ll help you figure out what to do to stay safe.
Free annual gas safety checks
You can benefit from free annual checks of your gas appliances if:
- live alone and are of pensionable age, disabled or chronically sick.
- live with other people, and you're all of pensionable age, disabled, chronically sick or under 18.
- live with a child under 5 years old and receive means tested benefits.
Different ways of us communicating with you
We can send you bills, letters and booklets in large print, Braille or on CD. Or we can call you every quarter to talk you through your bills.
Peace of mind through our password scheme
You can ask our meter readers to use a personal password when they visit your home, so you know they’re really from British Gas.
Our nominee scheme
You can nominate someone you trust to handle your account.
Your meters moved
We can look at moving your meters for free if:
- you can't reach the safety handle on your gas meter.
- you can't get to your pay as you go meter to top up.
Quarterly meter readings
If there's no one who can read your meter for you at home, we'll arrange for a meter reader to visit you.
 Lines open Monday - Friday 0800-2000, and Saturday 0800-1800. Calls may be monitored and/or recorded for quality assurance.
Calls to 0800 numbers are free from landlines and mobiles.
 Meters will not be moved for cosmetic reasons and will be moved subject to site survey and lowest cost option.
