Smart energy monitors

Smart meters come with a smart energy monitor to keep an eye on your spending and energy use

"It’s great that you can view the energy you use over the day and see where the peaks are, and work out what they relate to." Kate, London

Traffic lights show you how much electricity you're using and a flame tells you about your gas use, so you’re able to change things straight away. You can put your smart energy monitor anywhere in your home.

How smart meters work

Smart meters take accurate meter readings of your energy use every half hour, daily or once a month. It’s up to you.

Readings are sent to us with wireless technology, like your mobile phone.

You'll get an accurate energy bill without having to send us meter readings.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Will I get new smart meters for both gas and electricity?

A: Yes. You'll only need one smart energy monitor though, as it’ll show both your gas and electricity use and give you an idea of how much they’re costing you.

Q. How much is it going to cost me to have smart meters?

A: There is absolutely no upfront cost to have smart meters installed. The cost of smart meters, just like the cost of the meters that you have now, or any cost of delivering energy to you, all form part of your bill.

Q. Will I be on a different tariff when I get my smart meters?

A: No, you can stay on the same tariff. Though we’ll be introducing some smart meter specific tariffs in the future, so look out for those.
