Who can refer a friend?
To be able to refer a friend, you’ll need to be an existing British Gas customer with a home energy account or a HomeCare account – or both. You’ll also need to have an online account with us.
How do I refer a friend?
Referring a friend is simple – you just need to access your online account, or set one up if you haven’t already. Don’t forget, you need to be an existing British Gas customer to refer a friend.
After we verify your details, we’ll give you a unique referral link which you can then send to as many friends as you like. You can see your unique link above, or you can find it by accessing your online account.
What does my friend need to do after I’ve referred them?
To be eligible for the referral reward, your friend needs to use your unique referral link to switch their energy to us or buy one of our HomeCare cover products. You can find more details of our qualifying products in our terms and conditions (PDF, 42 KB).
It’s important that your friend uses your unique referral link, so we know you’ve referred them. Otherwise you won’t be eligible for the referral gift card. Once they’ve completed their purchase, you won’t need to do anything else. We’ll verify their details and send you your Amazon.co.uk Gift Card via email – this can take up to 90 days.
What reward will we get?
Your reward is based on the product your friend purchases using your unique referral link. If they switch their electricity and gas, you’ll both get a £75 Amazon.co.uk Gift Card 1. Or if they choose to only switch one, you’ll both get a £35 Amazon.co.uk Gift Card 1. When will we get our gift cards?
After your friend uses your unique link to join British Gas, we’ll need a little time to set up their account and check that the terms below have been met. If they have, we’ll send you and your friend your gift cards within three months of your policy start date. Read our full terms and conditions (PDF, 42 KB).
- If they’re switching their energy, they must not have had a British Gas energy contract within the past three months
- If they take out HomeCare cover, they must not have had a British Gas services account within the past three months
- If your friend makes a qualifying purchase but cancels their agreement within 60 days of their supply or policy start date, you and your friend will no longer be eligible for the gift cards. And if they decide to switch to a different British Gas product within 60 days of their supply or policy start date, we’ll amend the value of your gift card to reflect their new product choice
Can I refer a friend that’s already with British Gas?
You can refer any friend looking to switch their energy or take out HomeCare cover, but only if they aren’t already a British Gas customer for that product.
- If you refer a friend to energy, they can’t already have energy with British Gas – but they can have a current HomeCare contract
- If you refer a friend to HomeCare, then they can’t already have a HomeCare contract with us – but they can have a British Gas energy account
- And you can’t refer yourself
Every friend you refer needs to use your unique referral link to buy a qualifying product – otherwise we won’t be able to send you your gift card.
How many friends can I refer?
You can refer as many friends as you like. And there’s no limit on the number of referral rewards you can earn, provided you and your friend meet the terms of the Refer a Friend scheme.
My friend has completed a purchase using my unique referral link, but I haven't received my gift card. What should I do?
Once your friend has joined British Gas, we’ll need a little time to do some checks – this can take up to three months. If you haven’t received your gift card within three months, check that you both meet the terms of the promotion:
- Did your friend use your unique referral link when switching their energy or buying HomeCare cover online?
- Is your friend new to British Gas?
- If your friend switched their energy to British Gas, make sure they didn’t have energy with us in the three months before joining
- If your friend purchased HomeCare cover, make sure they didn’t have HomeCare with us in the last three months before joining
- Does your friend still hold the qualifying product 60 days after their supply start date or their policy start date?

To participate in the Refer a Friend scheme, both Referrer and Friend must follow the instructions on britishgas.co.uk. A Referrer must successfully identify as an existing British Gas home
energy or services customer via their online account. A Friend is an individual the referrer knows personally, who isn’t already our customer and who is happy to receive the Referrer’s Referral
To qualify for a Refer a Friend Amazon.co.uk Gift Card, the friend must follow the referrer’s unique referral link to join British Gas on a Qualifying Product (either British Gas energy or
HomeCare). The gift card is subject to the Friend’s Qualifying Product purchase – and the Friend’s contract or policy must still be active at least 60 days after the supply/policy start date. The
gift cards will be sent via email up to three months after the Friend has joined British Gas.
To qualify for the referral Reward for switching energy to British Gas, the Friend must not have held a British Gas energy contract within the last three months of joining. To qualify for the
referral Reward for joining services, the Friend must not have held a British Gas services account within the last three months of joining. If after making a Qualifying Purchase, the Friend
cancels their agreement with us up to 60 days after their supply/policy start date, then this will result in the cancellation of the reward for the Friend and Referrer. We also require a valid email address to send the gift card to.
