New Apprenticeship Jobs Announced by British Gas

The CHI apprenticeship is open to people without any prior experience as training will be provided in one of the six award winning British Gas Academies. The lucky 48 will enjoy a two-year training programme and receive a City & Guilds Level 3 QCF Diploma in Gas Utilisation Installation. There are 15 positions available in London; eight across Scotland; nine in Central England; six in the South West; six in the North West; three in Wales and one in the South East.

People can apply from 27 February and applications normally close within two weeks. Apprentices will start training staggered in three phases - the first set of apprentices will begin in July. The salary starts at £10,000 rising to £30,805 when fully qualified and competent. Apprentices also complete the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Gold award.

CHI apprentice, Peter Devine, age 28 from Leeds said: “The training is second to none. I feel as confident in the classroom as I do applying what I learn with my two hands in the workshops. I am never short of the support I need and it’s much more than a job to me. There’s nothing better than learning something that genuinely helps people and keeps them safe in their home.”

Steve Goldthorpe, Head of Academies at British Gas said: “Applicants often think that they need the technical skills in place already before they apply. But we can teach the technical knowledge; we’re looking for people who are natural communicators and with great skills to offer a service to help our customers.”
