RNIB and British Gas work together to make the Hive Active Heating™ app accessible for people with sight loss

Working in partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), British Gas has ensured that its Hive Active Heating™ app for Android phones is fully accessible for people with sight loss. It is the first app to receive RNIB's 'App Accreditation' for accessibility.

Hive Active Heating™ allows blind and partially sighted customers to control their heating and hot water systems using their Android smartphone by using the phone’s voice control features. It has gone through a thorough testing and development process to optimise the app to work in this way.

Managing Director of RNIB Solutions Neil Heslop said: "We're very excited to announce that the Hive Active Heating™ app has received our app accreditation and are pleased that customers with sight loss can benefit from this partnership.
