Tangible moves to help our customers

As Christmas approaches, we want to say thank you to all our British Gas customers and let them know about some commitments we're making to help them keep their energy bills down.
 
We will be keeping the price of our standard variable energy tariff unchanged through this winter. It's already one of the cheapest standard deals available, and this move will help bring some peace of mind to more than six million of our customers.
 
Responding to what customers want, British Gas has also launched a new deal which allows households to fix their energy prices for three successive winters – right through until March 2019.
 
We’re also making a commitment that existing British Gas customers will always get access to the same energy deals as new customers.
 
And for customers on the standard rate, we’re promising to contact them for an annual energy health check, to make sure they’re on the right tariff.
 
British Gas will continue to bring smart meters to more customers than any other supplier. These ensure accurate bills, enable customers to keep bills down by using less energy, and allow providers to offer innovative and tailored products – like the FreeTime tariff British Gas launched this July, giving smart meter customers free electricity on a Saturday or Sunday.
 
The commitments we’ve made today show British Gas has been thinking hard about ways to improve how the energy market works for all our customers, and is taking tangible action. You will see us doing even more in the coming months.
 
In the meantime, the team of British Gas engineers will be working hard through the Christmas period, including on Christmas Day, to ensure homes stay warm and working.
