Why move to green business energy?

  • Lower carbon footprint
  • Less reliance on diminishing fossil fuels like coal and gas
  • Meets government targets of more renewable energy use
  • Stay in control of your business energy bills as prices are more stable over time

100% of the business electricity use is matched with renewable electricity by buying Guarantees of Origin certificates (GoOs)[1]

What is renewable energy?

Solar, tidal, wind, geothermal and biomass are all examples of renewable energy because they all come from natural sources which replenish and don’t run out – unlike fossil fuels which are running out and contribute to global warming.  Renewable energy is also known as green energy, sustainable energy, alternative energy and clean energy.

Renewable energy comes from these natural resources:

Depiction of the sun which is a source of renewable energy
Depiction of tidal waves which are a source of renewable energy
Depiction of a wind farm turning blade which is a source of renewable energy
Depiction of biomass fuel which is a source of renewable energy

They’re called sustainable because these resources shouldn’t run out. They’re also often referred to as alternative energy because they can replace the use of traditional, reliable energy sources like coal and oil which will eventually run out.

Our fuel mix

Renewable energy is the fastest-growing energy source. It's is set to grow by 1,200 gigawatts (GW) in the next 5 years. This is line with government targets where energy suppliers need to have less reliance on fossil fuels. In fact, by 2025 the government wants all coal-fired power generation to end [2].

For all our non-green tariffs, British Gas currently uses 56% renewable energy sources and this is much higher than the industry average at 33%.

You can see the breakdown of the fuel we use in our fuel mix.
