Our solution for fleets helps organisations save time and maximise efficiencies by addressing the operational implications relating to evolving national infrastructure, range restrictions along preferred routes and accurate reimbursement of driver energy costs; simplifying the transition with an integrated system for vehicles, infrastructure, energy and optimisation.
Recognising the urgent need to make zero carbon a reality, we've pledged to transition our own operational fleet of 12,000 vehicles to 100% electric by 2025 – five years earlier than planned. Read our blog to see what we're doing and how we're helping our customers to do the same.
One of the ways that we're accelerating the roll-out of our EV services to customers is by providing electrical capacity upgrades, charging infrastructure and after sales support via partnerships with motor manufacturers and dealerships, such as:
A: Wikipedia defines an electric car as "An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using energy stored in rechargeable batteries."
A: Standard plugs aren’t the most effective way of charging the vast majority of business electric cars, vans and motorcycles. A standard three-pin plug will only charge at up to 13 amp. EV charging points are significantly quicker to charge an electric car than plugs.
Our charging points provide a safer and quicker option. They are also more convenient, as you won't have to worry about a cable every time you charge. Charging points will also give you more features like driver self-service and pre-booking available charging points on your smartphone.
A: No. Vehicles only draw current when the battery needs charging. The supply of electricity stops automatically when the battery’s full and there's no risk to your vehicle or installation.
A: Email our customer service team at EVCommercialSales@centrica.com. We'll get back to you within 48 working hours.
A: If we installed the charging point then we can provide an estimate for moving the charging point equipment – just email our customer service team at EVCommercialSales@centrica.com.
If the charging point is installed on your property and you would like to move it, you'll be responsible for making the arrangements. Please under no circumstances should you attempt to move the charging point yourself. It should only be moved by a qualified electrician.
A: No, but if you lease your property or premises you might need to get consent from your landlord.
A: No, but if you are one of our customers you could get a variety of additional benefits.
A: All electrical installation work will comply with the current edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and the Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation published by IET Standards Limited.
A: This will depend on usage and location – we will advise on whether servicing and testing is necessary. In many cases, it isn’t.
If you run a managed site with regular maintenance schedules, it should be easy to incorporate the charging equipment into your system.
A: Basic chargers can be operated using a key switch. We can also offer a system that remotely monitors the chargers and controls access via radio frequency identification (RFID) cards and/or a mobile app.
Remote monitoring can help in more complex cases. For example, you may have company vehicles, employees and visitors using the chargers, but you may only want to bill employees and visitors.
Different tariffs for different users can be set up, with some given free access. The system will still report back with details of things like energy used, charge time, location and user. The data can be filtered for easy monitoring.
A: This may be possible, but it will depend on the unit and the card.
A: The cost of installing EV workplace charging points depends on your individual requirements. With just a few questions, we can give you an indicative price to help you decide what’s right for your business
A: Generally you’ll find that the running costs of electric vehicles are cheaper than their petrol or diesel equivalents. The cost will vary dependant on the size of the battery, how much energy is consumed and the price per kWh.

A:
Standard (3-7kW) | Fast (7-22kW) | Rapid (Up to 150kW) | |
Charge time | 8 to 12 hours | 2 to 8 hours | 1 to 2 hours |
Vehicle range added in 15 mins | 2 miles | 4-13 miles | 30 miles |
Charging times are dependant on the make and model of electric car or van and if rapid charging is supported.
A: This is often possible, but funding is changing all the time so please contact us at EVCommercialSales@centrica.com. We can provide you with the latest information.
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that can support your business with the cost of installing electric vehicle charging equipment.
We are a registered installer for the scheme. To make an application, please go to the Government’s website.
A: Our engineers will visit your premises and conduct a site survey, working with you to determine the right charging equipment for your needs. We’ll need access to your switch rooms.
The survey will include a review of whether the site has sufficient spare electrical capacity. If not, we can help you apply to your district network operator (DNO) for a quote for extra capacity.
A: Our engineers will consider the cable route to the proposed location for the charging units.
They’ll need access to things such as existing utility plans, site drawings, the asbestos register and the electrical switch room. If you have a site facilities manager, it would help to have them there for the survey.
