Gas Safety Week 2025 - Protect your Business, People and Community
03 September 2025
We raising awareness of Gas Safety Week 2025 - the UK’s leading annual campaign that raises awareness of gas safety in homes and businesses. Taking place from 8th to 14th September 2025, Gas Safety Week brings together organisations, engineers, and customers to keep people and property safe.
This year’s theme, ‘Protecting your business, people and community’, reminds us that gas safety is more than a technical responsibility. It’s a shared commitment where everyone, from business leaders to employees, plays a part. Together, we can ensure everything is done to keep people safe and businesses running smoothly.
Why should gas safety be important for businesses?
Whether you manage a single office or multiple sites, gas safety is critical for operations. Gas leaks, fires, unsafe appliances, and neglected maintenance can disrupt your business and put people at risk. Legally and ethically, gas safety demonstrates compliance, builds customer and employee trust, and protects your brand. It’s not just about avoiding problems - it’s about creating a safe and efficient environment where everyone can work with confidence.
7 ways to improve business gas safety
- Get an Annual Safety Check
- Book with a qualified professional
- Plan ahead
- Keep records
- Act quickly on recommendations
- Get a Carbon monoxide (CO) monitor
- Consider back-up power
Just like vehicles need an MOT, your commercial gas systems require regular maintenance. An Annual Gas Safety Check ensures your appliances, pipework, and systems operate safely and efficiently.
Always use a Gas Safe registered engineer certified to work on your gas type (natural gas or LPG) appliances.
Don’t wait until your renewal date. Book your appointment well in advance to avoid downtime.
After the inspection, your engineer should provide a Gas Safety Record. Store it safely for at least two years (this is a legal requirement for landlords).
If faults are found, repair them promptly to prevent risks.
CO is invisible and odourless, so it’s crucial to have monitors installed where gas appliances are located.
Electricity cuts and gas leaks can disrupt operations and put people at risk. Ensure you have back-up power solutions in place and check them regularly.
Business energy saving tips by sector
Gas safety checks vary by sector. Here’s a quick breakdown of considerations…
- Landlords
- Commercial Catering
- Offices
- Manufacturing
- Public Sector (Schools, Hospitals, Council Buildings)
- Hotels and Hospitality
To ensure gas appliances are safe and well-maintained, arrange a annual gas safety check on all home rental properties. You’ll need to provide tenants with a Gas Safety Record within 28 days.
If you’re a commercial property landlord, you’ll need to find a Gas Safe Registered commercial engineer to complete your gas safety check.
Kitchens require special attention due to continuous heat, ventilation systems, and high appliance usage. Checks must include extraction systems and appliance-specific safety devices.
> Energy saving in restaurants
Lower appliance use still necessitates annual checks on boilers, heating systems, and gas-powered hot water units. Carbon monoxide detection is vital in enclosed plant rooms.
Gas safety includes large industrial burners, heaters, or process equipment. Checks require engineers with specialist commercial/industrial knowledge and certification.
> Energy saving in manufacturing
Safety is critical due to vulnerable users. Strict compliance, detailed record‑keeping, and zero tolerance for faults are essential.
> Energy saving in public sector
High guest turnover and older appliances necessitate consistent checks on heating, kitchen, and laundry equipment, plus visible CO alarm placement in rooms or corridors.
Reassess your business energy strategy with gas safety
Gas Safety Week is an excellent opportunity to reassess your energy strategy. Start by ensuring your business is on an energy contract that meets its needs, we offer…
