Partnership starts within. Supporting the People Behind British Gas business
26 October 2026
At British Gas, partnership starts with people. It’s there in the support we give our customers every day, and it’s also part of how we show up for each other behind the scenes. From managers who listen and adapt, to teams that make space for people to grow, those everyday moments of support help create a workplace where people can do their best work.
That support can take many forms: practical adjustments, opportunities to learn, or simply having someone there when life feels difficult. For Nemish and Denis, those moments have made a real difference.
Here, Nemish and Denis share what that support has meant to them – and why the people around them have played such an important role.
A workplace where everyone can thrive: Meet Nemish
For Nemish, feeling supported at work has made a lasting difference. From the start, he was open about his neurodiversity and found a team that was willing to listen, adapt and help him succeed. With specialist software and equipment, tailored coaching, and practical support from managers and colleagues, he was able to build his confidence and keep developing his skills.
That support has helped Nemish progress in his career, take on new challenges and continue to grow professionally. It has also inspired him to help others feel the same sense of encouragement. Through the Neurodiversity Network, he has helped raise awareness, support education and training, and build a community where people feel more comfortable being themselves and asking for support.
His story shows how the right support can help people feel included, valued and able to succeed.
When extra support makes a big difference: Meet Denis
When Denis faced one of the most difficult periods of his life, the support around him made a real difference. Alongside the care shown by his colleagues, manager and wider team, he was able to access practical and emotional support through British Gas services and networks, including counselling support and the Carers Network.
For Denis, that support helped him feel less alone at an incredibly difficult time. It showed him that people were willing to listen, step forward and help in a way that felt genuine. That is one of the reasons he wanted to share his story - in the hope that it helps someone else feel able to ask for support, and know they do not have to face things on their own.
Supporting customers and colleagues alike
Nemish and Denis have had very different experiences, but their stories share a clear message: feeling supported can make all the difference.
Their experiences show that partnership is not limited to customer relationships. It can be found in colleagues who listen, managers who help remove barriers, and communities that help people grow through both opportunities and challenges.
By creating an environment where people feel valued and supported, we help colleagues bring their best selves to work. And when our people feel supported, they are better able to support our customers, each other and the wider communities we serve.
