What to do if you still want to leave

We want to make sure that your switch to a new energy supplier is as quick and smooth as possible. So before you leave, you'll need to:

1. Check that you're not still in a contract with us

2. Give us 30 days' notice of your intention to leave:

  • a. If you're within the last 60 days of your contract with us:
  • Log in to your online account. If you don't have an online account it's quick and easy to register - just have a bill to hand
  • Click the link on the red banner called 'View renewal options'. You'll be presented with your renewal prices
  • If you don't like our prices and still want to leave, select 'I wish to leave British Gas'
    This will automatically send us notice to cancel your contract. You won’t need to send us a separate request to leave.
  • b. If you're outside your renewal window, or on deemed prices:

3. Give us a final meter reading so we can settle your account and create your final bill

  • a. If you have an online account, just log in to submit a meter reading
  • b. If you don’t have an online account


4. Make sure you've paid all of your outstanding bills

  • a. If you have an online account, just log in to make a payment
  • b. If you don't have an online account


If your account is in credit, you can get a refund.
