Am I eligible for the Communal EV Charging Tariff?

We’re launching this tariff as a pilot to learn more about how we can support shared EV charging. To sign up for this tariff you’ll need:

  • A Zaptec EV Charger

    Only Zaptec Pro or Zaptec Go 2 chargers are supported. Other brands, including Hive chargers, aren’t compatible.

  • Communal EV charging

    You’ll need a SMETS2 commercial smart meter dedicated to the EV charging point. If you don’t have one, you can request an upgrade to a smart meter

  • Your MPAN for your charging point

    Have the Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) for your charging point ready when you apply.

What is communal EV charging?

Is this only for Zaptec chargers?

Yes, specifically the Zaptec Pro and Zaptec Go 2 EV chargers.

Does this work with Hive chargers?

No, Hive chargers are not compatible with this tariff.

Does this EV tariff use green electricity?

Yes, our electricity is Zero Carbon3 as standard, and you can benefit from 100% Natural Renewable Electricity4 at no extra cost when you start or renew onto a new contract by 31 March 2026.

How much does EV charging cost with the Communal EV Charging Tariff?

We offer bespoke time of use prices, which mean unit rates are as low as at 15p/kWh during off-peak hours2 (midnight to 7am). Shared infrastructures also lowers setup costs, from £400 to just £40 per month - making communal EV charging more affordable for developers, landlords, and residents

What happens after the 1 year contract ends?

Your meter moves to our standard renewal pricing. We'll send a bespoke quote for renewal 90 days in advance of your contract end date.

  1. This is a one year energy contract, applicable for the Commercial Smart Meter that provides electricity to a Communal Charger. This offer does not include Communal EV Chargers that utilise electricity from a Landlords Supply that provides Electricity to other aspects of Regulated and Non-Regulated Energy Supply for a Landlord in a multiple dwelling building.

  4. 100% Renewable Electricity: Every unit of electricity British Gas supply to you during your contract will be matched to electricity from a natural renewable energy source and we will hold the necessary number of Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) as evidence of this supply. British Gas will use reasonable endeavours to purchase enough REGOs to match 100% of the electricity you use on this tariff. However, failure to do so will not constitute a breach of contract by British Gas or give rise to you having the right to terminate the supply contract. In the event something changes, and British Gas can no longer guarantee a renewable supply we will write and let you know. Excludes the British Gas Lite product.
